Why One Biohacker's Advice on AG1 Sparked a Bigger Conversation About Supplements
Feb 03, 2026
You may have seen the recent post on LinkedIn or IG: biohacker Bryan Johnson, with 2.3 million followers, shared that people should skip AG1 and instead focus on inulin and resistant starch. The response was immediate, with celebrations about how “bogus” supplements are and how influencer marketing has misled us.
But here’s why this conversation hit a nerve.
The study Johnson cited was a four-week trial with just 30 people. That’s hardly enough evidence to overhaul someone’s supplement routine, especially when the person sharing the advice personally takes a massive stack of 100+ daily supplements himself. What this really highlighted for me is a truth many people are dealing with: they want to go natural, but the supplement world is largely unregulated, and it’s hard to know who to trust and what actually makes sense for your body.
A Client Story: Taste, Results, and Real Outcomes
Last year, a client decided to stop her DNA-based Code Complex and switch back to AG1, simply because AG1 tasted better and the cost was more economical.
That got me curious, so I put together a comparison chart looking at:
-
ingredient quality
-
dosage levels
-
personalization
-
cost
-
intended outcomes
Here’s where things got interesting:

What the Chart Revealed
Here’s what the comparison showed:
-
AG1 is convenient and well-marketed, but it uses fewer ingredients at lower dosages, lower quality, and doesn’t adapt to your biology.
-
Code Complex is personalized using nutrigenomic and genetic data, meaning each ingredient and dose is chosen based on your unique profile.
After reviewing the chart, the client chose to return to her personalized formula the following month, especially because fatigue and dark circles had started creeping back on the generic approach. To put cost into perspective, buying individual professional-grade ingredients like AC-11®, a mushroom blend, and dihydroberberine on your own would run roughly ~$160. The same cost as a Code Complex subscription.
Why Personalization Matters
The NIH has pointed out that personalized medicine is expected to be commonplace by 2030, and nutrigenomics is a big part of that shift.
Instead of generic supplements that “might” help, personalized approaches aim to remove the guesswork and deliver nutrients that are targeted, efficient, and biologically relevant to you.
That’s how I choose to supplement, and that’s the foundation I use when supporting my clients long after they complete my signature program.
Generic doesn’t always mean better, and personalization might be the future of supplementation.
My work is about helping people reclaim their energy and nervous system peace so they can live out their purpose, and simplicity is a core value of Lifetime Health Coaching. That’s exactly why I offer one signature program, which includes genetic lab testing and a customized supplement formula built specifically from your DNA, not guesswork.
